say the love of God is an addiction
we seek, like a mid-morning caffeine fix
knowing the headache to follow—the blind
rage which pursues us through the day; a bitch
stalking the sweet scent of her missing pups
from door to door. nothing will sate desire
except the thing itself. even those who’ve
kicked the habit still feel incomplete waking
without the once familiar sounds and smells
which gave a reason for rising from bed;
the private meditation of rolling liquid
words around tongues; the absence of something
sometimes sweet, often bitter, but a taste
that’s filled with enough heaven for the day.

    I will be looking for more of your work.

    I like your poem for a variety of reasons but it takes me to many places.  One thought that stirs me is the word bitch which brings kindness, at least in my mind, to the negative word bitch.  Another is the idea of God being used by the addict for her addiction – the drug brings heaven?  Hmmm?  Thank you for the poem.
