I’ve had my good ear away from the ground of late so I missed the news that New Yorker Films is back online! Maybe you’re a little fuzzy on the landscape of the film distribution universe beyond your local art house but, believe me, this is big news. Let’s just say the cosmos of quality art house cinema distribution is a fairly small — and fragile — one. And so when one of the brightest points of light in the sky is suddenly extinguished, like New Yorker was a year or so back, by the evil Death Star of recession and debt, it leaves ( just one more , I promise) a black hole. For people like me, who missed this article on the reconfiguration and return of the company, the email I received this afternoon from longtime New Yorker stalwart Jonathan Howell was day-making news:
The entire staff will return to our previous positions, and we look forward
to again serving you in your programming of excellent films!
Take that Debt Vader. (Couldn’t help myself. Congrats, Jonathan and everyone.)
