I took this past week off from the internet. Kinda. Well, mostly just from Facebook and The Amish Jihadist (I did check email on occasion . . . I have students . . . students are needy). But, it was lovely. I surfed. By surfing, I mean I surfed waves–not channels or the internet. I wrote some script for my upcoming comic book, which is pretty much all I want to do these days (more to come on that later). I also avoided the news. The news, specifically around here, consists mostly of sketchy people doing really sketchy things to other people, so I’ll pass. And then, after much anticipation (or, rather, none at all), I popped back on the internet to find it flooded with people talking about either 1) gun control or 2) why ‘people need God in their lives’ so they won’t kill other people in crowded theaters. I can’t decide which conversation I find to be more inane. It’s a toss up. One thing’s for sure, when it comes to this sort of ‘national discourse’, we are indeed a predictable lot. So, perhaps it’s time for a longer break–at least from certain forms of social control (never you worry, I’ll still be around here–I wouldn’t let my loyal Amish Jihad readers down). In the meantime, I have lots of reading to do. Fortunately for me, this has been ‘free book’ month. I’ve been getting the hook-up on a lot of books and now it’s time to pay the dues with some interviews. In the coming months I’ll be subjecting these fine folks to the ‘5 Questions’ treatment:
Fred Bahnson, co-author of Making Peace with the Land
Logan Mehl-Laituri, Reborn on the Fourth of July
Shawn Peters, The Catonsville Nine
Mark Van Steenwyk, That Holy Anarchist
Lee Camp, Who is My Enemy?
If you have any ideas for questions, other interviewees, or the location of a good surf spot (preferably on the east coast), let me know.
Share the wealth folks, share the wealth.
