Greg Boyd, PhD (Princeton) is Senior Pastor of Woodland Hills Church and is the author of such fine gems including, The Myth of a Christian NationLetters from a Skeptic, and Repenting of Religion.

His greatest piece of writing, however, is probably his flattering and completely non-hyperbolic endorsement of my recent book, Third Way Allegiance: Christian Witness in the Shadow of Religious Empire.

With allies like him, I may finally gain a few worthy foes.

FIVE QUESTIONS WITH GREG BOYD

1) Based on the introduction of your new book, Present Perfect: Finding God in the Now, you seem to share a love for crickets. Are you the next St. Francis?

Hell no!  I’m no saint. I’ve don’t even know the rules for crickets. I can’t even get my dog to listen to me,  and St. Francis was “a sissy.” Okay, that was TOTALLY corny. Sorry. The truth is that I’m nowhere near the category of a  St. Francis or Brother Lawrence  (NOT that it’s a competition).

2) If you had to single out the most significant problem that the church in North America is currently facing, what would you say it is?

American Christianity.

3) Who would you rather be stuck with on top of a Ferris wheel: Cindy Jacobs, Rush Limbaugh, or a clone of L. Ron Hubbard?

If these were the only alternatives, I wouldn’t be stuck. I’d have already jumped.

"Where's Gilligan? He'd fall for this in a Teegeeack minute!"

4) Who is the one indispensable theological writer that all Christians, at least in the United States, need to read?

Jacques Ellul! Vernard Eller is a close second. Soren Kierkegaard (especially his Attack on Christendom) a close third.  Probably less than 1 in 10,000 American Christians have heard of all three.

5) Are you as excited as I am to never have to see Brett Favre throw another interception for the Minnesota Vikings?

Are YOU as excited as I am to never have to hear three months of insanely repetitive hype about whether or not Brett Favre is going to come out of retirement for the Vikings?

"Why are theologians so cruel?"
