Mark C. Watney is an English professor at Sterling College in Kansas. He was born and raised in South Africa, immigrated to the United States in 1977 as a high school senior, and then lived in Turkey and Japan, teaching and studying, before returning to Los Angeles as a high school English teacher and completing his PhD at the University of Texas at Dallas. Watneyhas recently been published in Avatar Review, Saint Katherine Review, and Dappled Things.
