A review of what Brent Laytham’s book, God Does Not, does and does not do in the way of fostering imaginative, theological discernment for the church with regard to God’s activity in the world.
Michael Gulker is a pastor at Christ Community Church, a small Mennonite church in Des Moines, Iowa. As director of theological education, Michael has sought to forge connections between the church and academy. Hoping to embody new ways of doing theology in and for the church, Christ Community Church seeks to embed theology in practices of worship, hospitality, prayer, and life together. Toward this end, Christ Community Church is currently working to found a Schola Caritatis, where seminary students might engage in high-level theological reflection while embedded in just such a context.
